Ferguson sees off oposition to bag prizes!   20/08/2007

When the weather breaks two minutes after the final fourball leaves the 18th, you can be sure that everyone had a dry time at the Eurogran UK Golf Day on the Arden Course on the 19th July. The heavens opened and the players scurried for cover, prior to the evening celebratory meal and presentation, at which a first timer came up trumps, with almost every prize.

It was as well that John Ferguson from Bettavend in Eastleigh, Hampshire, brought his new Volvo 4x4 to take home the following prizes:

Best Overall Score, with 37 points

Longest Drive on the 12th, and member of the winning tream, along with Steve Gallagher, John Rowe and Fekade Zewde, who also presented the prizes with Kevin Burns. It was noted by the committee that this was also the first group out, and they obviously made the most of the better conditions!

Clive Atkinson managed to break the monopoly and pick up the nearest the pin on the 8th, where many balls were lost in the water between tee and pin.

This meant that the winning team managed to bag all the trophies, for the first time ever, and John Ferguson will have to make his second appearance in 2008, if only to defend his trophy.

Thanks must also go to Nestle, who provided a “goodie bag” for all the players, and to the course management, who provided a playable course, after such recent rain. It was good to see that the watering takes place at night, when the teams have finished!
